To what extent natural resources are considered as a social aspect?

I don't really understand the question and would need more information but, from what I know, I'd say the consideration is very little. People think natural resources are an unending, infinite resource that they don't have to consider too much. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Our lives will change massively, already are changing.
I don't know enough to predict the future but we are massively overspending (in terms of resource) on transport. Until we find a way to make transport more environmentally efficient, we shouldn't be knocking lumps out of our one and only planet in the way we are doing.
There is no reason why cities need people to have cars, other than that city planners get back handers from the people who sell cars.
