a star is made from when a lot of hydrogen gas is pushed together from pressure and gravity. after some years the hydrogen undergoes fusion which makes helium. if the mass is big enough the helium fuses into carbon and that fuses into neon which fuses into oxygen and that fuses into silicon but when it fuses into iron it cant fuse into anything else, so that turns into the core.
