The sum of three consecutive even integers is -54. Find the integers?

Responses (2)

The middle number is the average, which is -18. The other two are -16 and -20.

Check by a different method:
N + N + 2 + N + 4 = -54

3N + 6 = -54

3N = -60

N = -20

N + 2 = -18

N + 4 = - 16

a € Z ; an integer. But it could be odd. An even integer by definition is:

u = 2a.

This shall be the smallest even integer in the Sum of three consecutive even integers

2a + 2(a + 1) + 2(a + 2) = -54

Solve for a:

2a + 2a + 2 + 2a + 4 = -54
6a + 6 = -54
6a = -60
a = -10.

u = 2a = -20.

And

-20 + -18 + -16 = -54.
