The speakers on my record player work fine, but no sound comes out of the headphones when I plug th?

Whenever I plug my headphones into the headphone jack provided on my record player, the sound continues to blare through the speakers. I have checked that the headphones work on other devices, and that they are fully plugged into the headphone jack. The model of the record player is a Jensen 3 speed stereo turntable with AM/FM stereo radio with pitch control, model JTA-222.
