The ten gallon part has nothing to do with it.
Measure the area you want to cover and figure out the depth of sand. For example if you have a 12" x 24" cage and want sand 2" deep, that works out to 12 x 24 x 2 = 576 cubic inches of sand, which happens to be 1/3 cubic foot. A cubic foot is 1728 cubic inches and weighs 100 pounds, so you want about 35 pounds or so.
