i bought a cellphone from craigslist, and i was called at&t check the IMEI number, everything is good, so i bought it. after 2 weeks i try to paid my at&t bill, i find out there is a Telesales CPE Chargebacks for $334.69. i call at&t and they told me this charge is for my phone, because this phone who bought it from at&t is dispute from his credit card, so at&t just charge the money for who using it. my question is can at&t charge me for the phone? thanks

i belive that since all the expences on that phone were not paid and the phone had moved under your ownership then yes. See I think you should have asked the person whom you bought it from if there were any unpaid debts that the company could force on you before you bought it.

I really dont think so., In a court of law especially civil court it is not going to matter that I have the phone I rightfully own it. and I have all my receipts.I am going thru the same thing as of Sunday. They are trying to tell me that it is my job to pay for a phone that I NEVER signed a contract with them for. The person whose account they put that money in is the person who should have to pay it back. They were nice to me and gave me an invoice number and the date of the charge back. I am sure you and I are not the only ones that are going thru this. Mind you on paypal the person stated the phone had a CLEAN IMEI It has been 3 months for you, have they made you pay it? I am right now in dispute of this amount. for me it is 979.04 and I paid thru paypal for the phone 679.90. I refuse to pay them for a phone that as modern as they are they should have a system that sends a red flag when we want to hook up a number to a phone that has not been paid in full or is stolen. This was we are still covered under the 90 day return policy. They even told me that my problem is with paypal..... Ill take it to court. I didnt DEFRAUD them., their customer did and they are trying to squeeze the money from the bottom of the pole. Now I am xeroing all my papers from paypal, and my phone bill., and sending a letter to the company. I refuse to believe I am the only one. I wrote down Their headquarters address and I will fight it to the top. It takes one person to not accept the abuse and more to come forward to be heard as a group. My attitude is nobody should pay for someone elses mess. Good Luck Edwin!
