A lot of aquarium pets (that aren't fish) can be difficult to keep. Like snapping turtles for instance. Certain reptiles and snakes are good in aquaria but you specified water. The first thing that comes to mind are snails.
Would you definitely not consider fish? Some of them are amazing.
I think you should get a fu**ing amazing OCTOPUS!!!! They're not too easy to take care of, and make sure they're LEGAL to have in your area. But they live in the water, not a fish, AMAZINGLY FUN, you can play puzzles with it, and they are definitely unique, fun, and AMAZING!!!!
I have always wanted an octopus ;)
P.S. If you want something easy to take care of what about a catfish(yeah I know, it's a fish), hermit crab, crab, fire bellied toads(they're fun!), jellyfish, starfish, and etc. But most of these aren't that fun, if you want fun go for the octopus! ;)
My boyfriend has shrimps. You can try cherry shrimps since they breed a lot and you can even sell them later (or cook them). A squid can be a nice pet BUT very dangerous. They're capable of shattering glass and they can't live with other aquarium pets. An octopus sounds good too, if you can get access to one. How about a sea cucumber?
I know it's not a water pet but big tarantulas are pretty cool watching them eat u only clean out there cage once a year and they molt shed there skin like a snake & get bigger u put a lid with cotton spread out get it a lil damp not soaked when they drink they put their legs on the cotton and soak up the water through it if u put straight water when they put their legs in it to drink they'll drown isn't that neat they are really cool to watch
Snails are probably pretty good, but they will get boring after a while. If possible I would recommend adding small snails to ANY aquarium as a bonus. ;)
Have Fun!
