Most of your spec points towards an ultrabook, although that is overkill for just word processing & surfing the web.
One to look at is the Dell XPS13 which is only 1.36kg, 13" screen (without a touch screen) & 6mm in thickness, but a hefty £1079.
Samsung Series 7 Ultra, 13" screen, at £900, is another to look at & well liked by the computer magazines, but comes with a 10 point touch screen (you do not have to use it, but most believe its essential for Windows 8). Samsungs Series 5 is much cheaper & also well regarded.
All of the above will give 5 hours of use off the battery.
Hope this starts you off, but do go down to your local store & see how they feel.
I find laptops too bulky to be transported around with you every day. I do have a laptop but only use it to move around the house with (i.e. when I want to send an email in bed). For normal computer use on the move, I use a netbook. They are considerably smaller, cheaper and lighter than laptops and would do everything you want. Alternatively a tablet with a wireless keyboard if you want to do word processing could work. I have a ten inch and a four inch mini-tablet and even the four inch tablet can word process and has a camera, etc., for Skype. I only paid thirty five pounds for it brand new.
Something more affordable is the Asus Vivobook S200, quick with an Intelu 3i cpu, fairly light & petite with a 11.3" screen +5hrs battery life @ a reasonable £450.
Kangaroo does have a very good point about netbooks & tablets thou for great portability, low cost & worry against loss or damage . However content creation is not there forte even with a bluetooth keyboard except prehaps Samsungs Note tablets with their S Pen stylus. I have a Note 2 phone 5.5"screen, & am amazed with the ease I can take minutes @ meetings (converted directly into text as I write) this combined with Wolfram Alpha when online ability to recognise both scientific & mathematical notation. The ability record audio, film to copy diagrams/ powerpoint slides with its camera. There are many good apps that will convert S notes to. word doc.s or you can write into a compatible Office suite such as Kingsoft (free) which I do & upload to a PC at the end of the day makes it a formidable versatile piece of equipment! In the 10" form it must be a breeze to use & well worth checking out. Sorry I didn't mean go on about the Note so much, but it has been a long time since I have found some things so useful to me!
