About a month ago, a senior stray dog showed up at our home. We called the owners who were reluctant to come get her. Finally, after hours waiting they decided to come get her. It was very obvious they didn't want the dog. The dog also lived a couple miles away from us, we live in a very rural area. Well, the dog showed up at our house again. This time she was in bad shape. My sister-in-law is a dog groomer and came over and pulled off over 40 ticks off her and some were the size of pennies. We love the dog and don't want her to go back to the people who really don't care about her but just aren't sure what to do.

I would contact your local animal control service and let them know the dog is being mistreated (and you would be happy to adopt it). I would think you'll be better off going through the officials with this matter, rather than keeping the dog (which really is stealing and an offence). Good luck.
