If you get romantically involved with your friend it will change your relationship forever. Period. Maybe if you date and break up you will remain friends, maybe you won't. It's a risk that only you can decide if it's worth taking. One of my best friends is an ex who I was originally friends with. You can remain friends in the end but I guarantee you that, good or bad, your relationship will change permanently. You need to decide if you want that relationship to change. I feel that if you are questioning wether you like him enough to date him and are worried about the integrity of your friendship then you probably don't like him enough to be with him romantically. If you wanted a romantic relationship with him then it would feel like the next step in your friendship, not a potential hazard to it.
