My mom surprised me by getting the 2011 ford focus a couple months ago. My parents are divorced so my dads paying for it, not my mom. I'm not too fond of the car's exterior look. The 2012 ford focus started advertising itself and it looks hell of a lot better than the 2011 version. Idk if I should ask my mom if I could trade it in for the 2012 ford focus, or a used nissan or something. I don't want to hurt her feelings cus she did pick the car out for me but she shouldn't be mad cus she's not the one paying for it, right? Soo, should I ask my mom if I could trade it in? Or keep the 2011 ford focus?

I would maybe use it for a couple of months, or for a year, and after a while of using the ford focus, (2011) THEN I would ask her. This way she atleast knows that you've used it. But if you were to just ask her right away, then she might feel like, "I surprised him with the car, and he didn't even use it for that long. He probably really disliked it." Another choice is that you can ask her right away, because sometimes, the newer the car is, the more you get for trading it in. But like, having scratches on it, or dents and stuff mean that you get less. However, make sure you talk to your dad about this too, since he will be the one paying for it. Oh, and if she says yes about trading it in, you could give her a small gift to say, "Thank you for letting me trade it in," and maybe her feelings won't be as hurt.
