I'm a 22 year old male and i'm usually pretty happy but sometimes not so much, i've been through periods of depression but i've always gotten through it. I went through a lot of stuff growing up like a lot more than a kid should of and I got through it all on my own, but now i'm thinking that I was left emotionally distant because of it. I have a ton of friends but I cant seem to be in a relationship or be close to anyone for some reason.
If I did go to a counselor what would they even say? or what would he/ she do to help me?
Should I see a counselor?

They would listen to your problems and based on who they are and their experience they can help you in several ways, but basically they will Just listen you out, flushing away your thoughts, giving you positive mindchanging feedback, they will encourage and give examples of other ways to think on the problems you can't get past by yourself (mindblocks), and most of them will also be able to give some kind of exercises to get rid of your problems.
The most important thing is for you to be certain they understand what you feel is the issue so they know what to help you with. And also BE HONEST, if you lie to them they wont be able to solve anything.. (that is rather obvious... so don't feel shy:) )
If they notice something they think can be of importance in what you say, they will ask you to tell em abit more about it and how you feel/felt about it.
