A dear friend gave me a small figurine of what looks like an angel. The wings move slightly because of springs. There is a heart on the left hand of the 'angel', & the angel is holding a leash because of a cat.
I do not like this thing at all, but I was brought up with the belief that gifts are to be accepted graciously, do not hurt the giver's feelings. Frankly, I'd much rather have a cheesecake like the one's she's giving her co-workers who also helped her move.
I don't expect payment of any kind for helping someone. I'm very tempted to put the figurine back in the box & place it in the cupboard. What do you suggest I do?
Honestly, I do not like it at all.
Should I put it away?

You said she is a dear friend. Her intentions may be loving because a cheese cake will be eaten and and forgotten. The present she gave may be because you are dear to her also. and gave you something special that you will always have. Even though it is polite to accept a gift, sometimes a gift can make one feel as you do. You could lovingly explain to her even though you appreciate the gift and that you value her thoughtfulness you would prefer to return it to her instead of destroying it. Or destroy it.. Angels are powerful spirit creatures created by God long before he created man. They are God's messengers created for a special purpose and do not want to be viewed as an object of worshiped or devotion.
An image is a representation of anything or symbol that is an object of passionate devotion material or imagined. These images such as angels are usually symbols of worship or devotion
Most people view them as a protection (eg guardian angels). for the person it is given to. Even if you are not worshiping the symbol it is still an idol.
However God's word tells us 1John 5:21 "My little children be on your guard against idols."

Along the bottom there is an inscription.."Friends For All Time". She said she had it for 20yrs, but the bottom is stamped 2003, which is irrelevant. I do have the feeling though, it was given to her by her former best friend.
I will NOT destroy it..but will put it away in the cupboard, but be mindful of it when she comes to visit, then be sure to put it out where it can be seen. Otherwise, it stays in the cupboard.
