... intersection I put on my blinker to make a legal left turn into a parking lot. Due to driving a big truck I swung the turn a little wide and waited for the driver coming the opposite direction to pass before turning. After about 2 seconds of waiting to turn at the intersection the driver behind me failed to brake and crashed into the side of my truck in front of the back driver's side wheel. He hit me hard enough to spin my whole truck around, deploy the airbags and overall cause $15k of damage to my truck alone. The cops came to the scene and a week later I received a citation for careless driving. I called the police department and spoke to the officer to get his point of view because I was confused and he was completely convinced that I caused that accident. He said that by taking a wide turn I cut the driver behind me off and "he has the right of way." I didn't agree but I was polite with the officer and he said he may be willing to knock it down to something else without points. Is it worth hiring an attorney to make it disappear and hopefully help insurance reach favorable decision? I'm in Pennsylvania if that matters.
