I am a highschool tenor saxophone player at about an intermediate level. I prefer a tenor to have a 'warm' sound and I am thinking of saving money to get my own sax. Should I get a Phil Barone sax? I am unsure of what to get because I have always used a school instrument.

Get a Yamaha, used in good shape if you can. It's a beginner horn, plays in tune, (if you do), very easy to play, and when you outgrow it a few years from now you'll be able to sell it for what you paid for it...which won't be much compared to a professional horn like a phil barone. You will not play any better on a pro horn at this point. Get a teacher who is a professional playing around your town, and concentrate on finding a mouthpiece that you are comfortable with, this is where you should be spending your money. Again, a teacher can help.
The best saxes out there are the older Selmers, Cons, proline Yamaha, ...and they are expensive.
good luck and practise until you fall down!
