In September 2016 I was contacted by an outside recruiter for a director-level role with a company. I told the recruiter I would be interested in the role and gave my resume to him. After a few weeks he let me know the company decided to delay filling the position. Now in February 2017 the company has posted the position on its website and does not appear to be using an outside recruiter. I contacted the original recruiter to see if he was still involved in the search and he said no. So, my question is do I need to disclose that I had been working with the outside recruiter on this role? Would the company have to pay the recruiter if they hired me? If so it may make me a more expensive and less attractive candidate.
