I am an atheist. I love science and don't understand religion. But my girlfriend is a Christian and her parents are very religious. She is okay with me being an atheist.I love this girl very much, but am scared what her parents will think of me and if they will even let us date after finding out I'm an atheist. As I see it I can either honestly become a baptist Christian, pretend to be one, be an atheist and hope for the best. I don't want to lie so I should either consider becoming Christian or sticking with athiesm. I love this girl more than I care about my athiesm, I just don't know what to do, and thanks for reading and answering, any advice or tips would help, let me know what you think.

Being an atheist myself, I know how you feel right now. You don't know how people will react to you. It's even harder with religious people since their reactions tend to differ. But I think that the best choice is to just tell the truth. If you lie to her parents, they will eventually find out, and when they do, their view towards you will become worse. But on the other hand, if you tell the truth, it will defiantly end up better. If her parent still don't like the fact that you are an atheist, then that's their own fault. You and your girlfriend can both try to sway their opinion towards you. If you decide to become a Christian for your girlfriend, then you aren't being true to yourself. I think that you and your girlfriend must be in a great relationship, and religion should never get in the way of it. <3

In order for you to become a Christian you need to know that
You are a sinner and that you need Jesus in your life.

You shouldn't become a Christian just because you're afraid of your girlfriend's parents, you should do it because you really truly feel lead to do so. I am saying this as a Christian, no judgement or hate here. Ask your girlfriend questions about her faith or maybe even go to church with her, and if you feel yourself being lead to accept Jesus as your savior then do so.
What It Means to Be a Christian.
Jesus extended the invitation to be his follower, saying: “If anyone wants to come after me, let him disown himself and pick up his torture stake and continually follow me.” Those who are true Christians have full faith that Jesus Christ is God’s specially Anointed One and only-begotten Son, the Promised Seed who sacrificed his human life as a ransom, was resurrected and exalted to the right hand of Jehovah, and received authority to subdue his enemies and vindicate Jehovah’s sovereignty. Christians view the Bible as the inspired Word of God, absolute truth, beneficial for teaching and disciplining mankind.— 2Ti 3:16;
More is required of true Christians than a mere confession of faith. It is necessary that belief be demonstrated by works. Born as sinners, those who become Christians repent, turn around, dedicate their lives to Jehovah, to worship and serve him, and then submit to water baptism. They must keep themselves clean from fornication, from idolatry, and from eating blood. (Ac 15:20, 29) They strip off old personalities with their fits of anger, obscene talk, lying, stealing, drunkenness, and “things like these,” and they bring their lives into accord with Bible principles. “Let none of you,” wrote Peter to Christians, “suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a busybody in other people’s matters.” (1Pe 4:15) Christians are to be kind and considerate, mild-tempered and long-suffering, lovingly exercising self-control. They provide and care for their own and love their neighbors as themselves. The main identifying quality by which true Christians are recognized is the outstanding love they have toward one another. “By this,” Jesus said, “all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves.”—Joh 13:34, 35; 15:12, 13.
As a Jehovah’s Witness I talk with a lot of people of all different faiths, including atheists. It is no use saying you are a Christian if you are not. Your girl friends parents will not respect you if you pretend to be one. And becoming one just to please them is not a good idea. It is something you need to do for yourself and the only way to find out is to study the Bible for yourself.
One thing you must know religion is not something like a pair of pants that change according to fashion. You would ask yourself. What makes this religion different then other religions.. You also want to read this scripture Act 17:10,11. This is what all of us need to do. We need to find out if they teach according to the scriptures. For example do they know and use Gods name. You shouldn't become a Christian just because you want your girlfriend's parents to be impressed. There was a man who faced a similar situation. He was a journalist named Lee Strobel. Him and his family were Atheist. One day, his wife converted to Christian. He loved her so much. He set out to disprove God's existence. Eventually he ended up proving himself wrong. His evidence ended up proving God's existence. He became a Christian. He wrote a book about it-Case For Christ and there is now a movie too. I hope you and your girlfriend are happy!
