They are around 1 cm long of magnesium ribbon and i lost about 4 pieces of them. I know that the auto-ignition is around 883 degress F but i just need reassurance that a fire wont be started aroumd the house.

Don't be worried, be prepared.
If you want to do chemical experiments, you simply don't do clumsy things. Mistrakes kill people. For instance their are potions that are safe, but if you let the glassware dry, it will explode when you try to rinse it. You should know that before you mix those potions. You can not afford to be surprised by stupid mistakes. Don't make them.
Magnesium does not self ignite, although it is easy to ignite with a spark. Camping stores sell little bars of magnesium for starting fires. You scrape off bits of metal and strike a spark to ignite them. It is unlikely that you would have spark sources lying around in your house.
