Should education be a public responsibility? If not, why? If so, for what purposes? How could your argument be made in 2012—and to whom?

Yes, it should be. Educated people make for a stronger country, especially economically. We invest money in business, we should also invest in the workers. In England, you used to get paid to attend university and get a degree. The idea seems ridiculous now, but it really was only one generation ago.
Heh! It seems crazy now, though. Everything seems to be pushing to towards a more selfish sense of looking after yourself as opposed to your country. Where we had free education, it's now very expensive, where we had free health care, we now have private too and the NHS itself isn't strictly free for all, and where we had a pension for all people classed as pensions, legislation is now forcing people to provide for their own pension.
Perhaps it's just a reaction to recession but it doesn't feel like it.
Yes. Youths are the treasures of a country because they are the next generation. If our youths are lack of education, what kind of next generation would be. Education is for the improvement not only for the youths but for the whole country. Educated youths can contribute good things that a country must be treasured.
Really what a radical idea, should be world wide. I now know why they said God save the Queen.
