Sherlock BBC - Did Sherlock ever tell John about who Redbeard is?

As of Series 4, John still doesn't really know who Redbeard was. The topic never arose between Sherlock and John.

I imagine Sherlock has, since, told John. Or maybe Gatiss and Moffat are going to have them talk about it in S5?
