It takes a book to explain why one material is better or worse than another about conducting heat. You need to study the physics of heat transfer, the chemistry of cellulose, the mechanical structure of a collection of wood cells, and then consider all these things together. Then you will understand why, and you won't be able to explain it quickly either.
