It goes both ways if you ask me. As a family you buy the food that comes into your house, you make the food everyone's eating so you got a lot of power.
It is the responsibility of the government to take and charge companies that lie about the food specifications, and to make it easier for the people to make an healthy option.
In the Netherlands there is a ban on candy commercials, but not on the candy itself.
The government's only responsibility is to prevent any other group from taking control. The US government is specifically charged to "preserve the blessing of liberty". Not one government has ever stayed within its proper responsibilities. Governments are always taken over by wackos who only want to control everything. There have been several examples of nations with no central government: the period of Hebrew history known as Judges, the people known to Rome as Germanicus, the Dutch Empire, the American colonies, and some others. In every case the nation was amazingly prosperous, peaceful, unconquerable, and lasted about 150 years. Then the people threw away what they had and created a central government to take over all their responsibilities. After that they either were conquered or collapsed from within.
