I had been researching tips to help me improve on rating music for bands and wanted a more proper way to do so than what I am at. I had theory of fore example rating each track on a ten track album individually, then giving an overall rating. Each song on a one to ten, one being lowest rating to ten being highest. I had failed to get the theory to work properly in favor. any tips on how to improve such things?

Music is exactly as good as it sounds. Many or most people confuse their opinion of the band with their opinion of the music. A reviewer needs to be pretty good at English Composition, not so much at Music Theory.
When I drove limos for a living I always played the local soft jazz radio station in the car and passengers would often ask my opinion of the music. I would always tell them "Well, if I knew more about the theory I might appreciate it better, but as it is, it just sounds like elevator music to me." Quite often one of them would chuckle and say "Well, that's because it IS elevator music!"
