I applied for a job under a temp agency and was given an assignment at a company, where in the beginning it was good because I go in every day, have my own quiet space to do my work, mind my own business, then leave. Timesheets were really easy to fill out and submit every week. Not one of my passions, but it pays the bills.
Months later the owner of this company said he wanted to bring me on as a regular, but under a different position. At first I thought it would be a good idea, but it's not. They moved me to the floor with the other regulars, and I didn't realize how much negativity there is within this company. The HR is passive aggressive and changes the rules all the time and everybody in the company literally complains about something every minute.
My temp position ended and I'm supposed to transition over to becoming a regular. If I become a regular with this company, they will pay me more, but I feel like I'll be stressed out and miserable, and maybe miss out on better opportunities elsewhere. I like temping because I like to meet new people and try out other assignments to see if I like it or not. Should I just tell the owner I changed my mind and don't want this position? I really feel like I was miscasted, and I would feel bad only because one of the employees took the time to try to train me. I don't know what to do.
I should be fine as far as paying bills go. This temp agency really helped me out a lot, and I'm hoping that if I explain to them the situation that they'll try to find another assignment for me elsewhere. I haven't filled out or signed anything yet with this current company to transition over from temp to regular, so I don't have any real obligations, just that I'd feel bad for wasting their time telling them I originally wanted to do it. I've been assigned to this company for about almost 7 months now, so I can at least put in my CV what I have accomplished. I live in the US and they sometimes do ask for references from employers sometimes, but in some cases, not really.
