If, it is correct, that you do not have a divorce, then after 5 years of separation, it would be very unlikely that you would be legally entitled to anything from your ex-mother-in-law's estate. I think that it also may depend on what the law says where you live. When you and your husband separated, was there a division of your mutually held property? If there was, that could affect the likelihood of your receiving anything additional. On balance I think it unlikely that after 5 years you will be entitled to any of your ex-husband's inheritance. But to be certain, I would suggest that you consult a lawyer or solicitor who knows the law where you live.
