So I have to answer questions for the book, To Kill A Mockingbird, and the question being asked is, " What does Miss Maudie mean when she tells the children, "Sometimes the bible in the hand of one man is worse than a whiskey bottle in the hand of your father."

even good things can be twisted, tainted, or misused when in the wrong hands.
In the context of this story, the Bible would have been equated with good and the whiskey bottle with evil. However, if someone misinterprets the Bible it is worse than when a man like Atticus, who is a moderate person and would not drink whiskey in excess, has whiskey in his possession.
