How old do you have to be to sign for a lease for an apartment by yourself without a co-signer in Ontario, Canada?

The age of majority in Ontario is 18. Any contract (including a lease) signed by a person under 18 is invalid. Therefore, in Ontario, you have to be 18 years of age to sign a lease for an apartment without a co-signer. However, if the Landlord wishes, he or she can still require a co-signer, in which case the co-signer becomes jointly liable for rent.
