Given are two points P1(x1, y1), P2(x2, y2) with P1(3, 7), P2(-2, -3)
You want a linear equation in the slope intercept form: y = mx + b
The slope m is defined as: m = (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1).
Plug your values into the point slope form (y - y1) = m (x - x1) :
y - 7 = ((-3 -7) / (-2 -3)) * (x - 3)
y - 7 = (-10 / -5) (x - 3)
y - 7 = 2 (x - 3) ;; (point slope in presentable form)
y = 2x + 1 ;; your answer.
Btw, either there's a typo in your choices' list, or the test is benevolent by design, increasing your probability of picking the correct answer at random by 25% to a staggering 50% ;)
Option 1) y = 2x + 1
is your answer. I didn't notice the "-" in 3) y = -2x + 1 at first sight. Spaces do increase readability.
