Problem - I want to get rid of my MIL . Please help?

In laws can be problematic. There seems to be a particular source of tension between and wife and her mother-in-law as there is some conflict in terms of who is supposed to be looking after the husband. In reality, neither should do it and a man should look after himself, but women often do portray themselves in the role of nurturer and emotional provider.

To try to play devil's advocate and see your mother-in-law's point of view, she's probably not feeling very useful any more (with a grown-up child or children) and may even see you as the person who usurped her role. Completely unfair, of course, but it happens.

How you deal with it is the key thing. I never saw much peace break out between my mother and her mother-in-law. My mother just got upset about it but didn't tackle it. However you choose to approach it, be sensitive. You have a family and husband. Your mother-in-law's has been partially dismantled and she could be feeling very sensitive about it.

Do you have kids, by the way? That's when mother-in-laws come into their own. They can take temporary charge of the kids (and so feel useful again) and it can give you and your husband a break.
