Hi, I am wanting to join the paras when I am 18 but you have to run 1.5 Miles in 9 minutes just for some security as I am training on a treadmill I said 2 Miles in 10 Minutes as through the selection course you have to wair army boots and a helmet, I have already passed for Infantry I think as it is 1.5 miles in 14 Mins for a 16 year old and I can do it in 12 but I need to know what kind of prep I will need to do to get to the stage 3 Years down the line as I am 15 to be able to do 2 Miles in 10 minutes

My brother is RMP, joined at 22, from what he told me the best you can do is take up a sport and do it regularly. Basic all round fitness is the most important thing rather than concentrating on specifics. If you are active and fit 1 and a half miles in 9 minutes is, well.. not easy, but very doable. Go swimming once a week and concentrate on lengths to build up stamina, run distances twice a week but pace yourself, concentrate on allround fitness rather than muscles.
My brother was an Ice hockey player before he joined up, good cardio, good upper body strength etc... you might want to think about doing a sport regularly that does the same. You have a few years ahead of you if you want to join early at 18, plenty of time to get ready and who knows, you may change your mind but it's still good to prepare :)
