A stretched spring has a total length of 20 cm and a spring
constant of 200 N/m. It is storing 0.25 J in its elastic potential
energy store.
Determine the unstretched length of the spring. ??
I believe the formula the may be required is : W = (1/2)kx2
Any help appreciated.

ANSWER
PE =½ ke2 Note (e) is squared
0.25J=½ x 200N/m x (e) 2
(½ x 200N/m = 100N/m)
0.25J / 100 = (e) 2
E = √ 0.0025
0.05m = 5cm
Therefore 20cm-5cm=15cm
unstretched length of the spring =15cm
