Hello, folks. There is an exercise in a book on learning English, word transformation in particular. "Philip was the only one who managed to find the solution to the problem". I have the word " up" to rebuild the sentence, so how do I use it? "Only Philip ... to the problem". Shall I write " made up the solution" or "came up with the solution"? Or both of these variants are correct?

"Came up" means that Phillip discovered something, while "made up" means that he guessed. If you come up with an answer, you found it. If you made one up, you fabricated (meaning in this case that you imagined) the answer and it might not be correct. Came up is a definite term, made up is not.
It sounds the same to me :D
