For example, universities have tested groups of people witnessing staged events. If one actor is black, the audience will often remember that he held a knife, when he did not. If two people have a mild disagreement and one is male and the other female, the witnesses might have wildly differing memories of the scene. Judges are well aware of such problems with verbal witnesses.
