Hello I am not too tech savvy and am ignorant in regards to building a PC.
I've done a fair amount of research in regards to building my first and just would like a few more things answered and clarified.

What are the primary parts that I should pay a little more for in regards to gaming???
I'm assuming processor and graphics card.

How can I be sure these parts are compatible with a particular motherboard??? When choosing a motherboard should compatibility with other parts be clearly stated somewhere or is there some kind of number or just a brand name that would confirm this???

Does each part need to be compatible with each other or do all the individual parts just need to be compatible with the motherboard???

When choosing a power supply if I get one with more power than needed can that damage my PC??? I believe I read somewhere too little would.

I'm not looking to build the very top of the line PC just one that will play games like Rome 2 Total War on like high or very high and run smooth and look good.

With that being said is Intel core i7 more like for ultra settings???
Would an i5 be enough???

How do I determine what parts are better than another other than the price???

Please list any other helpful tips for me. As well as recommend some specific parts if possible.

If you take the time to answer these questions and help me out, I thank you.
