Hi I'm looking to become a paramedic or EMT. I'm interested in that field cause I just wanna help people but I wouldn't consider it as a career thing. My career is film, acting, modeling, my question is can I still be able to do these things while I'm a EMT or paramedic?

Several Years ago I took the Basic EMT course from Central Texas College. I went all the way until the Registry Exam and had to drop because of my career at the time. my advice to you is start at the basic level and move forward from there. Baby steps because becoming a full blown paramedic is much involved and from my past training always working under a doctor's license and advice. there is even a lot of difference between an EMT and Paramedic. You will learn those in Basic EMT courses.
I am currently an EMT, if your goal is to help people becoming an EMT probably isent the best way. dont get me wrong i got into this profession because i love health care and i found the idea of a nice uniform, sirens and blood to be a romantic idea. as an EMT you spent most of your time dealing with other peoples bull shit, and helping them manage there problems. the average patient you will see on your ambulance is probably looking for drugs, or homeless. as an EMT you are the primary care giver to the under privileged. that's not to say what we do is not important, it just involves more throw up and spit than you would think. if that is the sort of thing you were thinking of, your looking in the right place. if your really looking to help people get in to social services there you can help people in major ways every day. im not sure how full time you do film, because being an EMT is fairly full time and requires a whole lot of grave yard shifts. you might want to volunteer at your local homeless shelter insted.
when its not a homeless person or a drug seeker, we see people on the worst day of there life every day, we save lives, but more often people die. CPR doesn't always work and sometimes kids just crash. if you dont think you could deal with that as well than look some were else to do some good :)
i hope this helped.
as a side note paramedic school is like 2 years. EMT is only one semester. if you were curious.
