The reason I'm wondering is because friends are supposed to be people you choose to hang around and talk too, like online friends for example and people you might meet when you travel or when you participate in events in your community. At school your stuck around people, and you don't get a choice of who is in your class or who you see in the hall or at lunch time. I mean you can choose who you see at lunch time, but you tend to see everyone in the lunchroom too. At school your thrown together with people who you haven't chosen to be around. And I haven't been in bad friendships either, I don't talk to many people either, but I talk too a few people at my school, only during the school year though. I don't see why those people you meet at school are called "friends".

People link up as best as they can, and make the best of their situation. Sometimes, a couple of people who meet this way will actually have enough in common, that their friendship will survive having left the environment where they first met. However, what's important to us as children, which affects who we link up with, often changes as we grow up, so it's uncommon for strong friendships to survive the transition.
