a) so commission of 12% on anything George sells. 12% as a decimal is 12/100 = 0.12. so if he sells something for $500, the commission is $500 * 0.12 = $60. For $1000, the commission is 1000 * 0.12 = 120. For $2000, the commission is 2000 * 0.12 = 240.
b) the independent variable in this case is the cost of the sale item. the commission is the dependent variable as it depends on the cost of the item.
we call 'x' the cost of the sale item, and 'y' the commission george earns. we see above that every equation is always the cost of the item multiplied by 0.12.
so the equation is: x*0.12 = y or 0.12x = y
c) you will have to draw it yourself but the y-intercept is 0 and the slope is 0.12. it is a straight line.
d) if george earned 210 that means y = 210. so 0.12 x = 210
therefore x = 210/0.12 = $1666.67. so he sold $1666.67
The pool is being filled at a rate of 2250 gallons every 45 minutes, or 2250/45 = 50 gal/min.
If the pool is 13,500 gallons then the time taken to fill the pool is 13500/50 = 270 minutes... or 4.5 hours
