Writing advice for a western fantasy book, any ideas, I need help!

What many writers (and screenwriters do) is take a situation they know or have experienced and re-imagine it in a different setting (i.e. in your case, a western). It doesn't have to be something you've experienced personally. It could be a current or past news story, an international event, or even another book, play, drama, opera, film.
Obviously it is better to be original but so little is original these days. The Harry Potter series of books, for instance, were largely cobbled together from other people's work and it didn't stop J.K.Rowling being a success.
