A quotes are taken from the short story "The Promise" by W.S.Maugham:
"Clouds were sailing leisurely in a blue sky."
Is it a metaphor and why?
"Her only other jewel was an enormous emerald which guarded her wedding–ring, and its SOMBRE FIRE emphasized the whiteness of her hand".
Is the expression "Sombre fire" an oxymoron and why?
Need help with metaphor and oxymoron?

Clouds were sailing - metaphor becouse "sailing" is a term used with sea, water and boats, not with sky and clouds, however, the clouds make movement similar to ships in water (sea) and that's why it's a metaphor
sombre fire - sombre is a synonym to dark, shady, etc... while fire is light and shine, those two oppose each other and using them together forms an oxymoron
