Electromagnetic waves. All EM waves travel independent of medium. (Light waves , 'radio' waves i.e. infra red, UV, x ray, etc.) Visible light is an electromagnetic wave, and electromagnetic waves do not require a material medium to travel. Hence, light can travel in space, too.
