This rapid rapid deterioration in batery life is unusual, as batteries gradually loose it.
Two things come to mind,
1. Prehaps one of the cells in your battery pack has failed. If it has then it should not get any worse. Fix I'm afraid if you need more hours is a new battery. There are various fixes described on the net that you can try, but I have not had any success
If you do buy a replacement, make sure it is compatible not only with your Sony Viao model, but also with your Windows version. as these batteries have management software inside.
. Check your laptop isn't over working. Some system left on working the hard drive, something left playing in the Dvd drive or even a virus. Also make sure all the ventilation ducts are clear so the fans are not working all the time.
One other thing very important you need to watch out for. Does the battery get hot?
Lithium batteries are subject to thermal runaway & even catching fire (Sony have had problems here (as has Boeing with the Dreamliner!).
Of course this is only a starter to your investigation & I advise you to go on line and Google against Sony Viao battery problems & laptop battery life extending type requests (as I expect you have already!)
I hope this is helpful & that you find a fix.
Sounds like it could be the initial stages of thermal run away. These Lithium batteries are very susceptible to damage from too high/low temperatures, being drained too much or over charged hence the management software. Usual damage is a breakdown of the thin passivating SEI layer on the carbon anode, the electrolyte then can reacts excessively causing the heat.
All this can occour at temps of from 70 to 80C.
You could keep the temp down with a laptop cooling pad, but is it worth the risk?
To get to a full scale run away with an end fire (as per Boeing's), you have several more stages to run through, it is unlikely you will get that far but it is possible so do not leave it unattended!
Really a replacement battery is the only sound solution.
thank you so much Ernest Scratcher. i must say your suggestions are very worthed. and i have got lots of knowledge from them. God bless you
one more thing i want to ask. i often use my laptop on AC power. i mean when the battery gets fully charged i still dont remove the charger and the laptop goes on AC power for a couple of hours. is it good or bad for the battery life to run the laptop on AC power?
Best to take it out, not because of risk of overcharge, ( the software management prevents this), but because of electronics enemy of heat.
Thank you for your kind comments.
thank you so much for your reply and advise and the tips very useful.
well i have noticed one more thing that is the battery gets hot more than it was like a week ago when i last used my laptop. so i think this heating has some kind of link with the rapid deterioration. so what can be done to reduce this heating? moreover, the temperature here is also increasing day by day.
