I live in an annex room. I can't get a room in the main house because too many people live in the house who are jerks and think it's cool to make the one person in the family who is allergic to mold, mildew, dust, pollen, and all the nasty that comes with living in a converted old shed actually live in said converted old shed. My moisture and climate control has a design flaw common in 1980's construction in that every time the power goes out for whatever reason, the climate control system needs to be reset manually. I spend large amounts of time away from said room, and the past couple weeks the power has gone out a total of 6 times, most of them while I was away for several hours, and a couple while I was sleeping and unable to reset the system. This means that for the last two weeks my room has had no climate and humidity control for at least a collective week in a coastal sub-tropical climate. Mold here can literally seed and grow in a day here. I did check behind each wall in a small, inconspicuous area. All 4 walls have molded. Replacing the interior walls and disinfecting the everything is going to cost me anywhere from $1500-$10000 and may not even work. Building new is going to cost me $8000-$20000 and guarantees there is no mold in my walls for at least a year. My mother gets back from her business trip in September, so that's when I run out of time and lose my healthy sleep spot my dad is kindly allowing me on the couch.
