My parents separated 6 years ago and the divorce was final two years ago. My mother has no visitation rights with me or my older brother in fact she has no rights to contact me because of past conflicts. About five months ago she decided not to let us see my dog (oskie) a 6 year old miniature labradoodle. He's my baby and I payed for him. In the divorce my mother did not fight for me or my brother she just took my dog as a way to see my brother and I. She is an alcoholic and incapable of supporting herself much less a dog. And I'm pretty sure she mistreats him because every time I saw him he'd limp and he would flinch and cower if you move quickly anywhere near him. I just want my puppy back. Any feedback would be helpful ...
Also I recently turned 18 so couldn't I just go take my dog?
My parents are divorced and my mother who I don't see anymore has my dog. How do I get him back?

I was 13 when I bought him so he went under my parents names. She's a pretty bad alcoholic so I wouldn't doubt that she doesn't relies that she may be hurting him. She does have a background of being violent when under the influence. But if I have no proof that she is hurting him what good would the police be? Could they take my dog away for suspicion of animal abuse/neglect?
