My grandma and grandpa have a female German Shepard, around 3-4 years old. And they keep her in a crate all day, every day. She is let out to go to the bathroom and to eat, for a short amount of time, but other than that she is crated. My grandparents are NOT too old to not realize and understand things yet, but my Grandma does get offended and upset very easily. So, how do I tell them that this is wrong? Or should I just call animal services? Or should I secretly let the dog run away? Lol

As awful as the response may seem, I would actually go for the last option you mentioned and here's why; no matter what happens to the dog (i.e. drowns, hit by car, drinks poison, etc and dies) it will have a better time out and about exploring the world before it dies and not die trapped inside of a prison! Now to formally address it with politeness, I'd approach it with a question rather than a suggestion (e.g. instead of saying "you should let Spot out", question it with something along the lines of "would it be a good idea to let Spot free more often?") at which point it would start the conversation. If all else fails, you're left with 2 options, "call it in" or "let Spot go".
