My mom and I have tried to get her a hearing aid but she gets mad at us every time we mention it and tries to make us feel bad, she'll say something like "well I wasnt listening" or "you mumble". She has enough money to get them but she won't get them anyway. We are constantly having to yell at her and then she thinks we get mad at her. In conversations she will barely understand half of it and we will have to repeat it usually more than twice. In public she talks louder than everyone else and doesnt understand what the cashier is saying most of the time. I can't convince her to get a hearing aid and I need ideas asap!!!!

Taking her to a doctor is the first step. She most definitely will believe a doctor. May be she is just concerned about a huge thing sitting in her ear. You should show her the new invisible hearing aids. There is chance that she will agree to use hearing aids after seeing them.

People with hearing problem may have different responses. For instance, some don't want their family to get worry about her/his condition and so they don't want to talk about going to an audiologist or about having an hearing aid. Some people agreed easily to undergo an hearing test and some don't. Patience is a virtue. There are different types of hearing loss problems and each of those can cause stress & anxiety. Our age grows daily, and we need to understand everything until they realize our good intention for them. Help her by talking softly and I believe time will come she will voluntarily go with you to an audiologist.
