My ex broke up with me last year and very quickly started up with another girl. She wants to keep in touch with me though, and maintain some sort of a friendship. Do you think this is a bad idea (as I've yet to start up with someone new)?

IMO an Ex as a Friend is a recipe for Disaster!
As in the End it usually ends up in a huge mess!
But if you feel you have a strong connection go for it!
But tryna ger back together might not be too wise as whatever dint work out between you two might come swinging back like a boomerang if you dont resolve the past!
