I live on a ten acre farmlet and we had our chickens in a small pen on the side of our shed - the problem is the pen was too small and over crowded and they kept wandering down to the road. So we put up a fence of chicken wire and put them about 100 meters back and they keep escaping and going back to where there old pen was to lay even though they all have their own laying boxes in their new (much bigger) pen. Why is this? How do I stop it?
We are first time chicken owners and are very confused.
My chickens keep escaping, help?

I also own hens, and the best thing you can do is clip their wings to keep them from flying out of their run. If you don't already have a roof on the run, put one on. It will keep them from getting out, and if you put chicken wire underground, also, it makes a box so they have no possible way to escape. Hope I helped! :) Good luck!
