My betta fish has something hanging from him on his right side right before his back fin. Any ideas?

is it causing anything atibacterial to form or affect the way the betta normally is swimming staying still its possible it could be something in the bowl you have it in might be something growing on his fin it might be feces its trying to get rid of it i would watch him or her and make sure that he doesn't become sick is he still active alot
