Hi, I have 4 baby western painted turtles each about the size of a silver dollar ( in other words not to much bigger than a quarter). They will only eat night crawlers, which I know isn't healthy for them to eat all the time but that's all they'll eat. I did by some calcium and vitamin d3 powder to put on the night crawlers since that's all they'll eat. I bought zoo med baby aquatic turtle formula pellets but, obviously, they won't eat them. Not just one but all of my turtles are this way.....seriously? How picky can you get. I'm a nanny for 10 hrs a day where am I going to find time for digging worms all the time? And please don't give me silliness about not digging up worms. They eat worms from the dirt out in the wild, for crying out loud, and I'm pretty sure the wild ones do just fine. I'm not paying $5 on something I can dig up in my own backyard. Anyway I also read to feed them snails but they won't eat those either. The pellets I believe will be the most nutritious for them and less of a Hassle, also less messy. I do want to provide the best I can for them. Oh I thought of one other thing that they'll eat, fresh chopped cilantro. I read that's good for them by providing vitaminA. I am a first time turtle owner and so far I'm loving it. They're the cutest little things. Anyway, does anyone know how to get them to eat the pellets? I'm concerned about them not getting the right amount of nutrition. Please I want serious appropriate answers to my question. None of this, if you don't know what to do then you shouldn't own turtles, stuff. Everyone has to start somewhere. I'm starting by asking questions and finding answers. Some of you weren't experts as first time turtle owners either. So, I would like positive helpful answers. I do know my setup is right. The water temp is right at about 75, they have a zoo med heat/uva lamp but no uvb. I've just been putting there aquarium outside in direct sunlight all day and yes they have a log to go under if it gets to warm. I keep the water half of the tank in shade and the land part in the sun. I'm getting a uvb lamp in a couple days. I'm also getting a water filter. Is there anything else I need? Im also getting 40 gallon tank (temporary) for now since the turts are so tiny and I'm only filling it 2 inches to prevent drowning, so it will be more of a terrarium than an aquarium. Can anyone think of anything else I need?
