Mountains makes their own climate?

Climate is the result of contributions from everything in the area, and the area might be very wide. California is lush because the air picks up moisture from the ocean and blows east. As it climbs up the mountains, the water condenses and falls as rain. That is why California is so lush and Nevada is all desert. But it takes an entire ocean to do that.
